วันหนึ่ง ในคอกแกะ คนเลี้ยงแกะได้นำฝูงแกะของเขาออกไปเลี้ยงตามปกติ เมื่อใกล้ค่ำ คนเลี้ยงแกะก็เริ่มต้อนแกะเข้าคอก แต่เมื่อเขาลองนับแกะดูก็พบว่ามีแกะตัวหนึ่งหายไป

ด้วยความร้อนใจ ชายเลี้ยงแกะจึงได้สวดอ้อนวอนต่อเทพเจ้าว่า ❝ท่านเทพเจ้า หากท่านบันดาลให้ข้าพบแกะตัวที่หายไป ข้าจะนำมันมาบูชายันต์แก่ท่านในทันที❞

วันต่อมา เมื่อคนเลี้ยงแกะ ตอนแกะออกไปเลี้ยงตามเดิม เขาก็ได้พบแกะตัวที่หายไปถูกสิงโตตัวใหญ่จับไปและกำลังกินอย่างเอร็ดอร่อย

จากนั้นสิงโตตัวนั้นก็หันกลับมาจู่โจมคนเลี้ยงแกะ คนเลี้ยงแกะจึงวิ่งหนีไปหลบซ่อนอยู่หลังต้นไม้ใหญ่ และภาวนาต่อเทพเจ้าอีกครั้งว่า ❝ท่านเทพเจ้าผู้ยิ่งใหญ่ หากท่านช่วยให้ข้ารอดชีวิตจากกรงเล็บของสิงโต ผู้หิวโหยไปได้ ข้าจะบูชายันต์แกะให้กับท่านอีกตัวหนึ่งก็ได้❞

One day, a shepherd led his flock of sheep out to graze as usual. When evening approached, the shepherd began to herd the sheep back into the pen. But when he counted them, he discovered that one sheep was missing.

Anxiously, the shepherd prayed to the gods, saying, ❝O gods, if you help me find my lost sheep, I will sacrifice it to you immediately.❞

The next day, when the shepherd took his flock out to graze again, he found his missing sheep being devoured by a large lion.

The lion then turned and attacked the shepherd. The shepherd ran and hid behind a large tree, and prayed to the gods again, saying, ❝O great gods, if you save me from the claws of this hungry lion, I will sacrifice another sheep to you!❞
