เจ้าของฟาร์มคนหนึ่งขายเนย 1 ปอนด์ให้คนทำขนมปังอยู่เป็นประจำ วันหนึ่งคนทำขนมปังเกิดอยากชั่งน้ำหนักดูว่าเขาได้น้ำหนักเนยตามเกณฑ์ที่ถูกต้องหรือไม่ ปรากฏว่าก็ไม่ได้มาตรฐานจริงๆ มันทำให้เขาโกรธมาก และเรื่องไปถึงศาล

ผู้พิพากษาถามเจ้าของฟาร์มว่า ❝เขาได้ใช้เครื่องชั่งน้ำหนักในการขายเนยหรือไม่❞ เจ้าของฟาร์มตอบว่า ❝ฉันมันตาสีตาสา ฉันไม่มีเครื่องชั่งเป๊ะๆ หรอก แต่ฉันมีเกณฑ์ของฉันอยู่แล้ว❞ ผู้พิพากษาถามต่อ ❝แล้วคุณชั่งเนยได้อย่างไร?❞

เจ้าของฟาร์มตอบ ❝ด้วยความสัตย์จริง ก่อนที่คนทำขนมปังจะซื้อเนยจากฉัน ฉันได้ซื้อขนมปัง 1 ปอนด์จากเขา ในทุกๆ วันที่คนทำขนมปังเอาขนมปังมาให้ฉัน ฉันชั่งมันและขายเนยไปให้สมกับน้ำหนักขนมปังที่ฉันได้ ถ้าจะหาคนทำผิดก็คงจะเป็นคนทำขนมปัง❞

A farmer regularly sold one pound of butter to a baker. One day, the baker decided to weigh the butter to see if he was getting the correct amount. It turned out that it wasn’t the proper weight at all. This made him very angry, and the matter went to court.

The judge asked the farmer ❝whether he used any measuring scale to weigh the butter.❞ The farmer replied, ❝I am poor. I don’t have a proper scale, but I do have my own standard.❞ The judge asked further, ❝How do you weigh the butter then?❞

The farmer answered, ❝Honestly, before the baker started buying butter from me, I have been buying one pound of bread from him. Every day when the baker brings me the bread, I weigh it and sell him butter of the same weight. If anyone is to blame, it would be the baker.❞
