มีชายคนหนึ่งเดินขึ้นไปบนยอดเขาเงียบๆ เขาอยากคุยกับพระเจ้า เพราะมีคำถามมากมายในใจ

เมื่อเขาไปถึงยอดเขา ก็เอ่ยถามว่า “พระเจ้า… หนึ่งล้านปีสำหรับพระองค์คืออะไรเหรอครับ?”

พระเจ้าตอบด้วยเสียงนุ่มว่า “ก็เหมือนหนึ่งนาทีเท่านั้นเอง”

ชายคนนั้นประหลาดใจ แล้วถามต่อว่า “แล้วหนึ่งล้านดอลลาร์ สำหรับพระองค์มีค่าเท่าไหร่ครับ?”

พระเจ้าก็ยิ้มและตอบว่า “ก็เหมือนแค่หนึ่งเพนนีเล็กๆ เท่านั้น”

ชายคนนั้นคิดอยู่ครู่หนึ่ง แล้วถามอย่างดีใจว่า “ถ้าอย่างนั้น… พระเจ้าครับ ฉันขอเพนนีหนึ่งได้ไหมครับ?”

พระเจ้าหัวเราะเบาๆ และตอบว่า “แน่นอนสิ… แต่ต้องรอสักครู่นะ”

ชายคนนั้นก้มหน้าอย่างงงๆ แต่แล้วก็ยิ้มออกมา เพราะเขานึกขึ้นได้ว่า ‘สักครู่ของพระเจ้า’ อาจยาวนานเท่าล้านปีของมนุษย์เลย

เขาจึงเดินกลับลงจากภูเขาอย่างสบายใจ แล้วพูดกับตัวเองว่า “บางครั้ง… การรอคอยก็ทำให้เราได้เรียนรู้อะไรสำคัญกว่าเงินเสียอีก”

There was a man who walked quietly up to the top of a mountain. He wanted to talk to God because he had many questions in his heart.

When he reached the mountaintop, he asked, “God… what is a million years to You?”

God answered in a soft voice, “It’s just like one minute.”

The man was amazed and continued asking, “Then what is a million dollars worth to You?”

God smiled and answered, “It’s just like one little penny.”

The man thought for a moment, then asked happily, “If that’s so… God, may I have one penny?”

God laughed softly and replied, “Of course… but you’ll have to wait a moment.”

The man bowed his head in confusion, but then smiled because he realized that ‘God’s moment’ could be as long as a million human years.

So he walked back down the mountain peacefully and said to himself, “Sometimes… waiting teaches us something more important than money.”
