เด็กชายคนหนึ่งชอบคุยโอ้อวดกับใครต่อใครว่าเขาสามารถกินน้ำให้หมดทะเลได้ เขาเที่ยวคุยโอ้อวดกับชาวบ้านไปทั่ว
แต่มีชายคนหนึ่งไม่เชื่อในสิ่งที่เขาพูด เด็กชายจึงพูดว่า “งั้นเรามาพนันกันไหม ถ้าข้าทำได้จริง ท่านต้องจ่ายเงินให้ข้า”
ชายคนนั้นจึงบอกว่า “ถ้าเช่นนั้น เจ้าจงไปดื่มน้ำทะเลให้หมดก่อนเถอะ”
เด็กชายจึงตอบว่า “ได้อยู่แล้ว แต่ว่าพวกท่านต้องไปกั้นไม่ให้แม่น้ำไหลลงสู่ทะเลก่อน แล้วข้าจะดื่มน้ำทะเลให้หมดตามที่พนันกันไว้”
A boy loved to brag to everyone that he could drink all the water in the sea. He went around boasting to the villagers everywhere.
But one man did not believe what he said. The boy then said, “Then shall we make a bet? If I can really do it, you must pay me money.”
The man then told him, “If that is so, then go ahead and drink all the seawater first.”
The boy replied, “That’s fine, but you must go and block all the rivers from flowing into the sea first, then I will drink all the seawater as we bet.”
