มีพระราชาองค์หนึ่งได้แอบวางก้อนหินไว้ที่บนถนน แล้วเขาก็หลบไปแอบดูว่าใครจะย้ายมันออกไปบ้าง มีพ่อค้าและข้าราชบริพานก็ได้ดูรอบๆ แต่ไม่ทำอะไร

ผู้คนต่างพากันกร่นด่าว่าทำไมพระราชาไม่มาทำให้ถนนสัญจรไปมาได้ตามปกติ แต่คนที่บ่นก็ไม่ได้มาช่วยย้ายหินออกไป

ต่อมามีชาวสวนคนหนึ่งแบกผักมาเต็มหลังผ่านมาเจอก้อนหิน เขาวางสัมภาระไว้ข้างๆ และเข้าไปเข็นก้อนหินออกจากเส้นทาง ปรากฏว่ามีถุงเงินวางอยู่ใต้ก้อนหิน เมื่อเขาเปิดออกจึงพบว่ามีเหรียญทองจำนวนมากและจดหมายจากพระราชาอยู่ในถุงนั้น

ในจดหมายเขียนว่า ❝ทองพวกนี้มีไว้ให้สำหรับผู้ที่ย้ายหินออกจากถนน❞

There was a king who secretly placed a boulder on a road, then hid to see who would move it away. Merchants and courtiers looked around but did nothing.

People complained about why the king didn’t make the road passable as usual. But those who complained didn’t help move the stone away.

Later, a farmer carrying vegetables on his back came across the boulder. He put down his load and pushed the boulder off the road. It turned out there was a bag of money placed under the boulder. When he opened it, he found many gold coins and a letter from the king in the bag.

The letter read: ❝This gold is for the person who removes the stone from the road.❞
