ครั้งหนึ่งมีชายผู้ชาญฉลาดคนหนึ่งเคยเผชิญหน้ากับกลุ่มคนที่บ่นเรื่องเดิมๆ ซ้ำแล้วซ้ำเล่า

วันหนึ่ง แทนที่จะฟังคำบ่นเหล่านั้น เขากลับเล่าเรื่องตลกให้ฟัง และทุกคนก็หัวเราะกันยกใหญ่

แล้วชายคนนั้นก็พูดตลกซ้ำอีกครั้ง มีคนสองสามคนยิ้ม

ในที่สุดชายคนนั้นก็พูดตลกซ้ำอีกเป็นครั้งที่สาม แต่ไม่มีใครตอบสนอง

ชายคนนั้นยิ้มและพูดว่า “คุณคงไม่หัวเราะกับเรื่องตลกเดิมๆ ซ้ำแล้วซ้ำเล่าหรอก แล้วคุณได้อะไรจากการบ่นเรื่องเดิมๆ ซ้ำแล้วซ้ำเล่าล่ะ?”

Once there was a wise man who used to go to the same group of people who complained about the same problems over and over again.

One day, instead of listening to the complaints, he told them a joke, and everyone laughed heartily.

Then the man repeated the same joke. A few people smiled.

Finally, the man told the same joke a third time, but no one reacted.

The man smiled and said, “You wouldn’t laugh at the same joke over and over again. So what do you get from complaining about the same problems over and over again?”
