I shook my head hard.
“No… this isn’t real!”
He stopped right in front of me.
Looked up at my face.
“You forgot me.”
Tears ran from his eyes,
mixing with the water soaking his whole body.
I burst into tears.
“I’m sorry… I’m so sorry…”
He reached out and touched me.
His hand was freezing cold.
“It’s okay,” he said softly.
“Now… you’re here with me too.”
I went still.
“What do you mean —”
Suddenly I felt like I was out of air.
I couldn’t breathe.
Everything around me began to warp.
The sound of sirens broke through.
“The woman has collapsed!”
“Get her to the vehicle, now!”
I tried to open my eyes.
I saw my own body… lying on the bathroom floor.
The water still running.
And my child…
I went numb.
He smiled at me.
